Integration with IFTTT
The easiest and simplest way to allow smart home automations based on reservation info would be to integrate with IFTTT.
EXAMPLES OF SIMPLE SMART HOME AUTOMATIONS
Simple but valuable real-world examples of what hosts could do include:
adjust the temperature X hours prior to a guest's arrival and X hours after the guest leaves
turn on lights so they arrive to a welcoming home
turn off lights X hours after checkout
play music so the guest arrives to a home with music playing
WHAT IS IFTTT
IFTTT stands for IF THIS, THEN THAT. The service allows for things in your smart home to happen based on the info you give it. IFTTT is already integrated with hundreds of services (see list here), so if you have any elements of a smart home, it would work wonders for you and make your guests happy.
BENEFITS OF BEING ABLE TO USE IFTTT WITH HOSPITABLE
If Hospitable integrates with IFTTT, it would use dates for your reservations and your check-in/check-out times. It would allow you to automate just about anything that your smart home is capable of.
Doing these things allows you to create a nice and welcoming home for guests to arrive to (first impressions matter) and has the fringe benefit of minimizing the use of unnecessary electricity.
Integrating with IFTTT would give Hospitable users easy and simple ways to control and automate their smart home based on reservation info.

If This Then That (IFTTT) Integration
Would be good to have IFTTT Integration to enable external services to be triggered based on events in Hospitable.

Hi Jon, Tim here from the product team
Thanks for the feedback. We recently launched our Zapier integration. There’s a lot of overlap between IFTTT & Zapier. Just wondering if you’ve looked into if Zapier can achieve what you’d like to do here?
All the best,
Tim

I use IFTTT for smart devices automation and more… what hospitable doesn’t support, including lights but much more.

Adding direct IFTTT support (and Hubitat!) would be very helpful for initiating or suspending many IoT automations (Thermostat, Robot Lawn Mower, Robot Vacuum, Irrigation, Lights etc.) when a guest checks in/out etc.
Short of that, I've just built a Hospitable, Webhook for IFTTT (example below) in an attempt to achieve the above. Hospitable's Webhook sends over all of the booking data (encoded in a JSON format) to IFTTT (after you've setup the connection) and then you have to write JavaScript filter code to get at the information you're interested in -- to trigger, or not trigger the event.
The following example webhook trigger works (in test), comparing check-in/check-out date/time to the current date/time before it turns the temp up or down, but I am not sure if Hospitable's webhook will actually kick off during a guest stay. Right now, I suspect their webhook will only kick off after a booking or a change to the reservation.
But perhaps an interim feature request, would be to have the ability for Hospitable's webhooks to kick off upon a guest's check-in and check-out times in addition to the others called out in the documentation (Pending, Accepted, Booking, Waiting for payment, Cancelled, date/guest # change)
More on Webhooks (Hospitable & IFTTT)
Hospitable: https://help.hospitable.com/en/articles/600261-webhooks-for-reservations-in-hospitable-com
IFTTT: https://ifttt.com/maker_webhooks
My example:
IFTTT filter code:
let payload = JSON.parse(MakerWebhooks.jsonEvent.JsonPayload)
// Example check-in time from the JSON payload
const checkinTimeIso =
${payload.checkin_time};// Convert check-in time to UTC
const checkinTimeUtc = new Date(checkinTimeIso).toISOString();
// Get current UTC time
const currentUtcTime = new Date().toISOString();
// Compare the dates and times
if (checkinTimeUtc === currentUtcTime) {
// Trigger your desired event (e.g., set thermostat setpoint)
MysaThermostat.changeSetpoint.setSetpoint;
} else {
MysaThermostat.changeSetpoint.skip();
}
