Please add an option within the Occupied thermostat preset to skip applying a hold and instead simply resume the thermostat’s built-in schedule (e.g., Ecobee’s Home/Sleep climate program).
This would allow hosts to benefit from Hospitable’s powerful automation around guest arrival and departure — including pre-conditioning before check-in and energy-saving setbacks after checkout — while still allowing the thermostat to follow its own day/night comfort schedule during the stay.
This is especially valuable for hosts using smart thermostats like Ecobee, where guests often prefer cooler nights and warmer days, and the built-in thermostat schedule already handles this perfectly. Currently, the “Occupied” preset overrides these schedules with a fixed hold, eliminating day/night variation and requiring manual intervention to restore it.
Proposed Behavior:
When the reservation becomes “Occupied,” instead of setting a temperature hold, Hospitable would send an API command to resume the thermostat’s native program (e.g., Ecobee’s resumeProgram).
Between stays, Hospitable’s existing Unoccupied and Long-Term Unoccupied presets continue to apply Away/Vacation holds as they do now.
Guest manual changes would still honor the thermostat’s Hold Duration setting (e.g., "Until Next Scheduled Activity"), so guest overrides would expire naturally at the next schedule transition.
Why this matters:
Enables day/night comfort using the thermostat’s own Home/Sleep program.
Preserves energy efficiency between stays with existing Away logic.
Avoids manual intervention for hosts who want smarter comfort, not static holds.
Requires minimal changes to existing logic — just a toggle and a conditional skip of the hold API call.
While this should at least support Ecobee initially (given its full API support for resume, vacation, and setpoint control), it could extend easily to other brands Hospitable already integrates with (e.g., Honeywell, Nest).
This simple improvement would provide a much-needed middle ground between full thermostat override and full manual control — perfect for hosts who want set-it-and-forget-it automation and dynamic comfort for their guests.
