Automatically cancel task reminders when a task is cancelled

Problem statement

When a task is cancelled in the Tasks Portal, the automatic task reminder (sent 24 hours before the scheduled start time) is not cancelled. This means teammates still receive email and SMS reminders for tasks that are no longer on their schedule.

Current workaround

Hosts accept that the reminder will still be sent and wait for their teammates to text them in a panic asking about a cleaning that doesn't exist.

Impact

  • Wasted time responding to panicked texts from confused teammates
  • Cleaner confusion and frustration
  • Reduced trust in the task management system
  • Unnecessary back-and-forth communication to clarify that the task was cancelled

Proposed solution

When a task is cancelled, automatically cancel any queued task reminders associated with that task so teammates do not receive notifications for work that no longer exists.

Unlock

Hosts would be able to cancel tasks confidently without needing to manually follow up with teammates, and teammates would only receive reminders for active tasks on their schedule. This would reduce confusion, save time, and improve trust in the task management system.
