I will agree with the prior comment, but take it one step further than customizing the backup code message. We need to be able to turn off the backup code communication. This is crucial for us. If there is a problem setting the lock code, I will fix it myself to maintain the users phone number as the entry code, not some random number. Using a random number is a horrible guest experience and we don’t want to be forced to do this. We don’t want hospitable to take over control of the messaging sent to guests, this affects our guest experience.

There seems to be the notion that automation means we don’t want to be bothered with any of this. We as hosts are ultimately responsible for guests experience, and are deeply involved in the check-in checkout process. We freaking need to manage cleaning and restocking the home every guest change, setting the lock code is not that big a deal in the case that hospitable fails to do so. Automatic lock codes are a convenience, not a necessity. We’ve lived with manually setting the lock code before hospitable just fine.

Twice, we’ve also had erroneous messages from hospitable sent to guests that did not actually fail to set the lock code. In the event of a mistaken error, this is CONFUSING to guests and has required us to backtrack with the guest saying, “no actually ignore that message your lock code will work just fine.”

Just allow us to turn OFF this message!!!! This makes us so angry.

LOVE backup codes and automatic code communication, but I cannot use it without the ability to customize the messages that are sent into my voice. Without this ability, the voice and tone of the messages just doesn't match mine and doesn't deliver the guest experience I'm creating. I love Hospitable because it allows me to automate my messaging but in a way that sounds like each message was custom typed for each guest. For this reason though I have the feature turned off right now, but it would be amazing to have the safety net built in.

Can we please add the ability to customize the message that is sent so we can put our own voice and flair into it? Hospitable could create a template even but allow hosts to customize the various parts of the message.

You can still send the codes in your voice using the %smartlock_code% short code in any messaging rule. In this case we will only send our message if there was an issue with the code you created and we had to use a backup code.
