Create a short code that for check_in and check_out that includes the year

It appears that when you use the short-code of %check_in% or %check_out%, it excludes the year if the date is during the current year (for example, February 26). If the date is in a year other than the current year (past or future), the year is included (February 26, 2027). Especially for rental agreements, I would like the option to include the year in the short code no matter which year (past, current, or future) is being referenced.
