Problem Statement:

  • The current thermostat unoccupied override is limited to a maximum of 2 hours
  • Cleaning an Airbnb property takes approximately 8 hours
  • The 2-hour override is insufficient for cleaning schedules

Current Workaround:

  • Manually adjusting the thermostat multiple times during cleaning
  • This requires being present or coordinating with cleaners to manage temperature settings

Impact:

  • Operational inefficiency — requires constant monitoring of thermostat settings
  • Risk of properties being too hot/cold during extended cleaning periods
  • Potential guest discomfort if cleaning extends beyond the override window
  • Considering downgrading plan (saving $30/month) due to this limitation

Proposed Solution:

  • Allow hosts to customize the unoccupied override duration beyond the current 2-hour limit
  • Set override periods that match actual cleaning or maintenance schedules (e.g., 8+ hours)

Unlock:

  • Hosts can set appropriate override durations for any scenario
  • Eliminate the need for manual thermostat adjustments during extended periods
  • Maintain comfort and energy efficiency without plan downgrade

    They implemented a way to enable Occupied mode during a calendar block, but I still need something for cleaning tasks too, it really needs to be automated, and the day/time of the cleaning task needs to be adjustable too

    my property in arizona gets hot quickly, especially in July & August. The two-hour window following checkout is not sufficient for my cleaning team to get the property turned over, and if they have a delayed start, the properties reach >85 Fahrenheit. The temperature is not acceptable for people to work in, and it’s also not acceptable to manually change the thermostat every time. The “unoccupied” schedule imposed on my ecobee prevents anyone from changing the temperature from the home.
