Distinguish Which Direct Booking Site a Reservation Came From

Problem Statement:

  • When a property has multiple Direct booking sites (e.g., a Hospitable-hosted site and a self-hosted site), all bookings appear as "Direct" in Hospitable.
  • There is no way to tell which specific website a Direct booking originated from without setting up third-party analytics (Google Analytics, GTM, or Meta Pixel).

Current Workaround:

  • Set up cross-domain tracking in Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager and add booking.hospitable.com to the cross-domain list.
  • Add your GA4 Measurement ID (e.g., G-709CR06X9P) in Hospitable under Direct bookings → your site → Marketing/Integrations → Google Analytics.
  • This requires using Google Analytics or GTM, which not all hosts use.

Impact:

  • Hosts without Google Analytics cannot distinguish between Direct bookings from different websites.
  • Additional setup complexity for hosts who want this attribution.
  • Reduced visibility into which marketing channel or website drives the most Direct bookings.

Proposed Solution:

  • Provide a simple code snippet that can be added to the booking widget or the host's website to automatically track and attribute which Direct booking site a reservation came from.
  • This should work without requiring third-party analytics tools like Google Analytics.

Unlock:

  • Hosts can easily distinguish which Direct booking site a reservation came from, regardless of whether they use Google Analytics or other third-party tools.
  • Better insight into which website or marketing channel drives the most Direct bookings.
  • Simpler setup — no need for complex cross-domain tracking configuration.
