Dynamic Weather & Wind Forecast in Guest Messages
operate a vacation rental in northern Minnesota that caters heavily to fishing and outdoor recreation. I would love to see Hospitable add a dynamic weather forecast widget or shortcode that could be inserted into automated guest messages a few days before arrival.
The idea would be for Hospitable to use the property's location and the guest's reservation dates to automatically display or link to the forecast for their upcoming stay.
For example, an automated message sent 2–3 days before arrival could include:
🎣 Weather for Your Stay
Friday: 62° / 44° • Partly Cloudy
💨 Wind: NW 8–12 mph • Gusts 18 mph
Saturday: 58° / 41° • Chance of Rain
💨 Wind: W 12–17 mph • Gusts 24 mph
Sunday: 64° / 45° • Sunny
💨 Wind: SW 6–10 mph
For outdoor-oriented properties, wind speed, wind direction and gusts are extremely important, so those should be included along with temperature, precipitation and general conditions.
How It Could Work
Hospitable could offer a shortcode such as:
%weather_forecast%
or
%stay_weather%
When the automated message is generated, Hospitable would use the property's location and reservation dates to populate the current forecast.
Another option would be an integration with a service such as Windy, allowing the host to configure a permanent forecast location for each property. The guest could then click a button such as:
🎣 View Live Weather & Wind Forecast
That could open an interactive forecast centered on the rental property showing wind speed, wind direction, gusts, precipitation and temperature.
Why This Would Be Valuable
This wouldn't only benefit fishing properties. It would be useful for ski rentals, beach houses, lake homes, golf destinations, hunting properties, boating destinations, mountain cabins and virtually any outdoor-oriented vacation rental.
It would also make Hospitable's automated pre-arrival messages feel much more timely and personalized without requiring the host to manually check the forecast for every reservation.
Even Better
Allow hosts to choose which weather information appears:
Temperature | Conditions | Precipitation | Wind Speed | Wind Direction | Gusts | Sunrise/Sunset
Then allow the forecast to be inserted into Guest Experience messages, Guidebooks or Direct Booking websites.
For my property specifically, I would send this automatically 2–3 days before arrival, because knowing the wind forecast can be extremely helpful to guests planning their fishing days on Lake of the Woods.
Bottom line: Give Hospitable hosts a dynamic “Weather for Your Stay” block that automatically uses the property's location and the guest's reservation dates. It would be a small feature that could add a lot of value to the guest experience.
