Label public holidays relevant to property location on calendar
It would be incredibly helpful to update the Hospitable calendar to include labels for public US holidays and notable days, such as St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and others.
Here is a snapshot of the Google calendar with a few dates highlighted.

Automatically indicate on calendar holidays relevant to property location
On the calendar view, visually indicate the days that are holidays or significant based on the location of the property. For example, if the property’s in the US, show the common US holidays. If the property’s in Mexico, show the common Mexican holidays, and so on. Bonus points for making them togglable.

adding a public holiday calendar subscription is a no brainer. Especially with introduction of dynamic pricing. It is important to see that dynamic pricing is aware of local holidays and accounting for them with higher nightly rates and potentially different minimum stay thresholds.

Automated Public Holiday Rule-Sets with Dynamic Availability Restrictions
The Problem: Manual Date Management and Staffing Costs
Currently, managing public holidays that fall on different dates each year (like Easter, King's Birthday, Matariki, etc.) requires manually selecting the date range and applying a rule-set every year for every property.
This manual process is time-consuming and prone to human error. More importantly, we use these rule-sets primarily to enforce check-in and check-out restrictions on the public holiday itself. This strategic restriction is essential for avoiding bookings that would require staff to work on the holiday, incurring time-and-a-half labor costs (a significant operational expense).
Proposed Solution: Dynamic Public Holiday Recognition
We request a feature that allows users to create a "Public Holiday Rule-Set Template" and link it to an automatically updating list of regional public holidays.
The system should identify public holidays based on the property's country/region (e.g., New Zealand) and automatically apply the pre-configured rule-set to the correct, changing dates each year.
Key Requirements for the Rule-Set Template:
The template must allow us to configure availability restrictions specific to the holiday date(s). This would eliminate the need for annual manual date configuration.
Below are examples of the specific restrictions we need to automate, where the rule-set applies to the exact date(s) of the public holiday:
Public Holiday (New Zealand Example)
Required Check-in Restriction
Required Check-out Restriction
Labour Day
All days except Monday
All days except Monday
King's Birthday
All days except Monday
All days except Monday
Matariki
All days except Friday
All days except Friday
ANZAC Day
All days except Thursday
All days except Thursday
Christmas Day & Boxing Day
All days except Thursday, Wednesday
All days except Thursday, Wednesday
Good Friday & Easter Monday
All days except Monday, Friday
All days except Friday, Monday
New Year's Day & Day after
All days except Monday, Tuesday
All days except Tuesday, Monday
Conclusion and Benefit
Automating these dynamic public holiday rule-sets would provide substantial benefits by:
Saving significant administrative time across multiple properties annually.
Eliminating costly errors where a holiday is missed, resulting in unnecessary time-and-a-half payroll expenses.
Providing true set-it-and-forget-it automation for essential availability controls.
This feature would make the "Apply Rule-set" functionality far more powerful and valuable for operational efficiency.

Notes on Complexity
New Zealand
NZ
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/new-zealandUse this general feed for national holidays. Regional anniversary dates (Auckland, Wellington, etc.) will likely need separate or regional feeds.
United States
US
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/united-statesThis covers federal holidays. Critical: For the state-level complexity requested, you will need to source feeds for individual states (e.g., California, Texas) or use a commercial API that manages this complexity.
Canada
CA
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/canadaThis general feed covers national statutory holidays. Critical: Provincial holidays (e.g., Civic Holiday, Family Day) are essential for staffing, meaning you should use separate provincial feeds.
Australia
AU
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/australia/nationalThis only includes national holidays. Critical: Australia requires separate feeds for each State and Territory (NSW, VIC, QLD, etc.) to capture local public holidays.
United Kingdom
GB
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/united-kingdom/englandThis link provides Bank Holidays for England (the largest region). Critical: Holidays vary significantly across the UK (England/Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland). You must use specific regional feeds to ensure accuracy for properties in different UK nations.
Germany
DE
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/germanyThis national feed covers key holidays. Critical: Germany's holidays vary significantly by Federal State (Länder). A general feed will miss crucial regional holidays like Corpus Christi and Reformation Day.
France
FR
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/franceThis feed generally covers national holidays. Note: Be aware of regional holidays, particularly in the Alsace-Moselle area (Good Friday, St. Stephen's Day).
Italy
IT
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/italyThis covers national holidays. Critical: Every city/town observes a local public holiday for its Patron Saint's Day, which is essential for local business operations and will be missed by a national feed.
India
IN
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/indiaThis feed covers the most prominent national holidays. Critical: Holiday schedules vary immensely based on State/Territory and major religious demographics. State-specific feeds are required for accuracy.
Japan
JP
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/japanJapan operates under the Shukujitsu system, including the "Golden Week" cluster and "Substitute Holidays" (when a public holiday falls on a Sunday). This national feed should cover the core calendar complexity, but local festivals/observances may be missed.
Brazil
BR
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/brazilThis covers national holidays. Critical: Brazil has very high complexity due to State, Municipal, and mandatory Catholic religious holidays (like Carnival, Corpus Christi) that are legally recognized regional days off. State/City-specific feeds are required.
Mexico
MX
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/mexicoThis covers national Statutory Holidays. Critical: Mexico also relies heavily on Bank Holidays (non-statutory but widely observed closures) and regional/local religious observances (e.g., Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe) that impact operations.
Spain
ES
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/spainCritical: Spain observes National, Autonomous Community, and two local (town/city) holidays annually. A national feed will miss up to 60% of mandated days off depending on the location.
China
CN
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/chinaCritical: Holidays are often bundled into "Golden Week" style clusters, which involve mandatory "make-up" working days on previous or subsequent weekends. The feed must accurately reflect both the holiday and the required substituted working days.
Russia
RU
https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/russiaCritical: Russia has long winter holidays (New Year's, Orthodox Christmas) and floating observance days. Additionally, Federal Subjects (regions) may declare extra holidays, particularly for specific religious demographics (e.g., Islamic or Buddhist observances).
