Hosts currently see Airbnb’s masked (“fake”) phone number in the reservation thread, which makes it impossible to confirm whether a keypad PIN was correctly generated using the guest’s real last four digits.
Recently, hosts have reported multiple instances where smart-lock PINs appear to be set to random numbers, leading to confusion and unnecessary troubleshooting. Without visibility into the actual last 4 digits that Airbnb sends us, hosts cannot distinguish between:
A properly generated PIN based on the true phone number
A fallback/random PIN generated for security or integration reasons
Displaying the true last four digits (alongside the masked number Airbnb provides) would allow hosts to confidently verify PIN accuracy, reduce escalations, and avoid giving incorrect information to guests.
This improvement would help hosts reassure themselves that smart-lock codes are being set correctly and quickly identify when something might be off.
