Time-limited guidebook URLs that expire after checkout

Problem statement

  • Guidebook URLs sent to guests remain permanently accessible, even after checkout
  • Past guests retain indefinite access to live guidebooks that may contain updated property information
  • The same permanent URL persists across all booking platforms (Airbnb, Booking.com, VRBO, direct bookings) in message threads
  • Hosts have no control over the lifecycle of guest access to property-specific information

Current workaround

  • Using static or permanent guidebook links that do not automatically expire, or manually rotating/replacing links outside the normal guest messaging workflow

Impact

  • Loss of control over who can access property information after their stay
  • Security and privacy concerns about indefinite access to operational details
  • Inability to limit guidebook visibility to active reservations only
  • Past guests may see updated information not relevant to their historical stay

Proposed solution

  • Generate a unique, reservation-specific guidebook URL for each booking
  • Make the URL valid from a configurable time before check-in until a configurable time after checkout
  • After expiration, show a simple "This guide is no longer available" message
  • Optionally display a post-stay page with non-sensitive content (thank-you message, review reminder, contact info, direct booking link) instead of the full guidebook

Unlock

  • Hosts could control the lifecycle of guest access to property information
  • Improved security and privacy by limiting guidebook access to active guests only
  • Ability to update guidebooks without past guests seeing changes
  • Optional post-stay engagement through expired link redirects
  • Better information governance across all booking channels
